The history of K.C. Masterpiece Barbecue Sauce is an interesting story in itself.  As the story   goes, Rich Davis was a successful medical doctor of some sort.  One of his hobbies was   barbecuing in his garage and experimenting with homemade sauces, which he tried on his   mother.  Eventually, he hit on one that she really liked so, that was his "go to recipe".     Somewhere along the line, some of his sauce made it to one or more of his neighbors who   really liked it and one of them suggested that he should start to bottle it and sell it   commercially.  Doctor Davis did so, and as is said, "the rest is history".

And now the rest of the story:  Rich Davis' K.C. Masterpiece was a hit and outsold his   expectations.  Finally, someone made the suggestion that he should open a BBQ Restaurant   and eventually, he left the medical profession and did just that.  The last I heard, he had   opened at least two establishments, one being in a strip mall in Kansas City, which Jan and I   went to when we were out there picking up another Farmall, ("The SHtring", a Farmall Super   H), and a plow for one of our Farmall Cubs).  While we were there, we also visited The Arabia   Steamboat Musuem.

(If you ever get the chance to be in the area, DO NOT MISS The Arabia Steamboat Museum   or Rich's Davis' BBQ Restaurant.)

 Rich Davis' Barbecued  Baked Beans

This is one recipe that after making it a few times, we decided to tweak it a wee bit, so the   recipe below is our tweaked version.  If you feel that it needs more tweaking, do your thing.

   Ingredients:

Two 16-ounce cans of Bush's Original Baked Beans, drained but not rinsed.                               1/2 cup K.C. Original Masterpiece Barbecue Sauce.                                                                      2 tablespoons of golden raisins.                                                                                                      1/2 cup brown sugar.                                                                                                                      1 medium onion, finely chopped.                                                                                                    1 tart apple, such as Granny Smith, peeled, cored, and chopped into 1/4-inch pieces.                  3 strips uncooked bacon, sliced into 1/4-inch pieces.

   Instructions:

Mix all ingredients, except bacon and put into a 1 1/2 qt. baking dish.

   Spread mixture evenly with spatula.

Sprinkle sliced bacon pieces evenly over top of beans.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake for one hour.
