Ham Bone Soup With Barley

~We found this recipe in a magazine, whose name has been forgotten at this point in time.  It ~was originally submitted by "Damn Delicious".  We tweaked it by adding 1/2 to 3/4 cup of ~regular Pearl Barley to the soup just before we brought it to a boil in Step 3 below.  We also ~extended the simmer time to more than the 10-12 minutes as directed below.  This is a great ~way to use up leftover ham and a ham bone you might have from a holiday or a Sunday ham ~dinner.  Oh yes, you don't have to serve it immediately.  In fact, like many other recipes, it is ~better the next day.
